Try Something New: Other Nut Butters

Happy Friday everyone, it's the weekend, yay! I did the food shopping and despite the fact that it's been raining nonstop since Tuesday I feel happy and content. I didn't think it would happen but I'm finally starting to get the soothing mental/emotional benefits from working out. I'm calm and unflappable (which is weird because I'm always flapped), even joyful despite the gloomy weather. Although I've taken today as a rest day from the gym but will probably do a bit of yoga when I finish putting the groceries away. It's been pretty quiet around the blog lately, I hope I've not bored you to tears. Comments are always welcome, I'd love to hear from you and hear how you're all doing. Now let's talk about nut butter.

Sure, I like peanut butter but it's a little boring especially when it's not Jif or smothered in milk chocolate. So I tried almond butter and cashew butter and oh my goodness, they are in a totally different league to the humble peanut butter. Cashew and almond butters are best freshly ground into containers from Whole Foods or a farmer's market, but Trader Joe's carries some delicious jarred versions as well.

If you've never had toasted cinnamon raisin Ezekiel bread smeared with fresh almond butter and topped with slices of crisp Cameo apple for breakfast or lunch, you're definitely missing out. It's filling, delicious and almost decadent for something so healthful.

Here is an article about all the great health bennies of nuts/nut butters. I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for Brazil nut and pistachio butters.

  1. Do you like honey? I have found that walnut butter with white honey (or any other type that you love) is delicious on toast! I don't normally prefer walnuts but the combo is just so interesting and good.

  2. I adore honey, I think I might be part bee. ;) Walnut butter with honey sounds mouthwatering. Thanks for the tip Alicia!

  3. One of my absolute favourite breakfasts is wholegrain toast with cashew butter and raw honey. SO good.

(ps, this is ZomaTheSadist from the forums. I've been following your progress, and I am soooo proud of you! You are an inspiration, woman!)
