Mindful Eating News Story

Happy Thursday! My sister has returned safely home and I'll post some pics and stories soon. I've got to get back to real life and real life means tidying, cooking healthy food and work.

I had been meaning to post this link for months now. It's valuable information to those of us wanting to live a healthy lifestyle and break away from the all or nothing diet mentality. It comes out of Juneau Alaska, the Empire newspaper, a two part series called "Mindful Eating Offers a Non-Dieting Approach to Good Health."

  1. These two articles are a good introduction to intuitive or mindful eating. Sadly, most average North Americans (and in particular, the many N. Americans who are overweight) have such a sick relationship with food that they refuse to even entertain this seemingly radical new idea.

    I have written a number of posts on this topic myself and consistently receive responses from readers saying that they are incapable of listening to their bodies and that this approach cannot work for them.

    I am lucky, in that even my readers who totally disagree with mindful eating are reasonable, polite, thinking individuals.

    Elsewhere in the weight-o-sphere, there are bloggers who have nothing but disdain and scorn for mindful eating. They make it quite clear that mindful eating is simply a license to gorge and they take pleasure in insulting and debasing anyone who has the slightest interest in mindful eating.

    For awhile, I was reading one particulary nasty proponent of everything anti-mindful but I made a decision to never read his blog again. It is one of the healthiest decisions I have made in a long time!
