I Walk

I walk because there is no substitute for fresh air.
I walk because it is impossible to be in a bad mood while smelling wild flowers.
I walk because it is good for my brain as well as my body.
I walk for recreation and quality time with my family.
I walk because it helps me sleep better.
I walk because sunshine helps my body produce vitamin D.
I walk because it reduces symptoms of PMS.
I walk because it produces lovely endorphins.
I walk because it makes me more awake and alert than a huge mug of Hawaiian coffee.
I walk because my calves, butt and thighs benefit from it.
I walk because the health of my heart and lungs depend on it.
I walk because it reduces the risk of Type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
I walk because it is free and freeing.
I walk because I can.

There is a very elderly couple I see on my walks.  They walk every single day.  They hold hands and smile as they walk.  Though they quite possibly may be older than some of the people I take care of at the nursing home, their excellent posture and steady gait tell another story.  While I can only assume this, I would bet the farm that the extra time they have had together in their golden years is, at least in part, because of these daily walks. 

I walk because I want to have as many years as possible to walk beside my Bunny.


  1. I really love this post. I am determined to get out and walk more, heat or no heat. Charlie (the Westie) will be very appreciative, I know. Abbie will stay home, as she gets tired quickly.
