Merry Merry!

It's been quite the year, I've struggled to deal with all the changes that Rob's new job has brought.  It's not always been easy but I know how fortunate we are.  Today is Rob's birthday and the start of his vacation after spending so much time away from home.  I'm overjoyed to have him home and mostly all to myself (I'll have to fight for lap time with a certain four-legged lady.)  We have so much catching up to do.  I'm going on blog hiatus and cutting my social media usage during this holiday time.    I don't want anything detracting from quality time spent with my husband, which is what I want for Christmas most of all!

I'll be back in January to chronicle my next Whole 30 and would love it if you would join me in that challenge.  I know you won't but I'll throw it out there anyway.

Wishing you a healthy, safe and joyous holiday season!

Finding the Words

My sister and brother-in-law sent my precious nephews to school this morning with fear in their hearts.  No parent should ever feel that way, nor should any parent have to face losing a child to gun violence as they parents of Sandy Hook Elementary did on Friday and will have to face every day for the rest of their lives.

I'm not going to get on a soapbox and write about guns but rather a different sort of weapon.  Words have the power to hurt and leave lasting ill effects in their wake, so take a moment and think before unleashing this weapon.  But unlike other weapons, words have the power to heal and bring meaningful joy to another person's life.  Heal someone with your words today.

Five More Sleeps

Rob had to stay an extra week, ugh!  It will have been three weeks by the time he returns on Friday.  It's been a long haul and I've had to fight hard not to get too depressed.  I won't lie to you and say there hasn't been more than a little self-medicating with food but I've also been juicing and eating my fruits and veggies every day and out on a good daily (sometimes twice) walk with Tally.

I've decked the halls and trimmed the trees, did the holiday shopping and just finished setting up the luminaries for tonight's annual lighting up of the neighborhood.  But I feel like it's just going through the motions without Rob here to share it with me.  It's also a freakishly warm 70 degrees here, the chill that is so welcome after a long Georgia summer is definitely missed.

I've been scanning cookie recipes but I don't even feel like baking.  I'm sure this funk will lift when Rob returns home.  How are your winter holiday preparations going?
